Certification Magazine recently conducted a survey which says that high-level security certifications like CISSP are receiving incredibly high pay. The respondents of the survey were about 1,000 individuals and it indicated that people who are CISSP certified received an average of $7,140 pay raise in 2011. Other certifications only received an average of $3,487 pay raise. Based on the Certification Magazine survey and a BC Management salary survey back in 2001, those professionals who have aCISSP Certification are paid more compared to the people who have other certifications. In another survey made by InfoSecurity magazine back in 2002, the average salaries of IT professionals decreased by 5.5%. Those who are in the field of IT security increased by 3.1%. This statistic is still independent of certification but it definitely shows that investing time and effort in the field of security will be very valuable to you and your company. Certifications must be vendor-neutral, if possible, at all time. The reason for this is because IT managers need to have a broader view of security that goes beyond the usual technical platforms that their division manages. In my opinion, getting security certifications is definitely worth the time and effort. If it will increase your marketability and will be good for you long-term, you should surely spend time on it.
